A .45 Day

This morning I spent some time on the range. Started early and finished up before it got too hot. Shooting my old Linebaugh-built .45 Colt Ruger. I got the gun in 1972 and shot it till it was loose and the throat was burned pretty badly. John Linebaugh rebarreled it with an 8" barrel that had been hand-rifled and hand-lapped by an old gunsmith in Colorado. Dad put his Taylor Throat in it. John rechambered a Seville .44 Magnum cylinder to tight .45 Colt specs. My old friend who is now long gone, Sam Bass, made the elephant ivory grips for me. I shot an SCI Record Book Javelina with it back in the 1980's. Donated the skull to the SCI Wildlife Museum in Tucson. My late wife did the scrimshaw.

At one point while I was shooting the 4th round went "pop" instead "BANG!" and the bullet hit the target keyholed. When I ejected the empties the 4th was a .44 Special! Not sure how I got it in with my .45's. At least I hit the paper with it.

All in all it was still a good day.
