you mentioned using Leupold Dual Dovetail rings and bases exclusivity. My favorite as well, especially for heavy recoil weapons. My question has to do with the alignment of the rings, for those not familiar with the set up both rings are cammed into place with a quarter turn into the base, thus locking them into place. I have always been concerned about getting the two rings aligned properly. Do you have any special tricks that you can share ? I have been using a two foot section of dowel rod followed by lapping the rings.

Bar stock. I use it to Turn rings in with, and align the bottom two halves. Once the rings are pretty close, you can tap the the rod down on both rings and it will bring them both into alignment. After that the scope will lay down in the rings with out binding and will glide back and forth with out resistance.

you can look down the scope and if one of the rings is a bit off there will be a small space between it and the ring. Also I don't care for the lapping of the rings. Most scopes have an aluminum body and I have seen some that were a tiny bit undersized so lapping the rings takes out metal and the scope could begin to slide back and forth. Lapping takes out metal and once it is out you can't replace it.

lapping. I'll turn a metal rod on the lathe to 30mm and use Blakes method for final adjustment. Thanks guys no more lapping for me
