from Hornady. If you need some, the first 5000 went quick. It is priced right at $1.75 per round.

Appreciate the effort to get brass for us, Thank You

one of the best. Years ago when Steve and his people developed the 17 HMR he asked me to build a revolver in that caliber. I did and sent it to him, no charge. So we were the first to build a 17 HMR revolver.
Recently when I couldn't find any 375 caliber bullets for my upcoming Africa hunt I called Steve to see if he could get me a couple of boxes of the Dangerous Game bullets. He said sure and then called me back and said they didn't have any 375 caliber bullets in the whole building and he had an Africa hunt coming up in a couple of weeks too. He was planning on using the 375 Ruger rifle with those bullets. He called back later and said one of his employees had almost a full box of the bullets. Steve said there were 41 in the box and he sent me 20 of them for my hunt.

Then recently I was talking to him and mentioned I sure wish I had some 405 brass but there was none in the country. He said "let me check on something, I'll get back to you". He called back later and said they had almost 20,000 rounds of 405 brass that they were saving for reloading 405 ammo. He said with all the back logs they wouldn't be loading any 405 for a good long while and if I wanted them I could have them, and he gave me a good price too. So I ended up with almost 20,000 rounds of 405 brass. Like I said above it pays to have friends.

Gary, could you tell us about the 17 HMR Revolver you made for Steve Hornady? In all the years I’ve been reading your forum, I don’t recall reading about the small caliber guns except for an occasional Single SIx. I’ a big fan of the 17 HMR especially in my CZ 452.

it was a Ruger Blackhawk. Steve sent the reamer to us

and we used his reamer. We had to experiment with the twist rate as a 17 caliber revolver was something new back then. We went from a 12 twist down to a 6 twist before we found the twist the gun liked. I don't really remember the details of it other than we changed the barrel several times while trying to find the correct twist that functioned he gun. Once we found the right twist rate we engraved the gun and if I remember right we put Steve's name on it. Sorry I don't have more details but we do quite a few guns for special folks like Steve Hornady. And this was probably 15 to 20 years ago.

Thanks Gary

short Contender barrel to do the testing with. This is that one lone barrel, the
only barrel we have ever built in 17 HMR..The barrel is 7½ stainless."[image]
