Reeder Custom Guns - Anyone have any experience with the Break Top Webley .45?

My son Roman is very interested in them. I've never been interested enough to actually buy one. Having played with an Enfield Commando .38/200 I was less than impressed. With your hand the cylinder could be indexed backward easily. In bright sunlight you could actually see the bullets streak in flight! It did go bang easily and was quite the curiosity. It seemed ahead of the Russian Nagant revolver but that's not a complement.

He is looking at the MK IV and a modified one is actually what he wants. He also is interested in the .45 Auto Rim a bit. We have missed the bids on a couple as prices have gone beyond what O'l Dad is comfortable with. Hard to blow a grand on such a relic when some good stuff is out there. But I guess I was like that too.

stash the 45 and a good amount of ammo for a back up.. There`s a U spring that`s used when opening the action that broke and I found a part`s guy and replaced...

Prices have jumped good on them. It troubles me to pay good N-frame money for one. Even if it’s his money! Lol

To document a case where he actually killed an African Lion with a .455 Webley in the 1930’s perhaps? I think he used military ammo which would have been FMJ. That’s maybe why he was still around!

Situations like that are like the one of the old Eskimo lady that killed a record book polar bear with a 22 LR as he stuck his head into her igloo or whatever type dwelling she was in. She shot him in the eye and killed him, one shot.

For that matter I killed a huge Cape Buffalo a few months ago with a 45 Long Colt, 2 shots, but the first would have killed him within a few more minutes. But again that doesn't mean I would try it again or I would ask any sane person to do it.

Things happen on the spur of the moment that only an idiot would try to do again.

I would rather read "The liberals Book on Changing the World" than read a Capstick book. Years ago (1992 or so) before I went to Africa I believed the stuff Capstick wrote (I actually read Death in the Long Grass). Then after my first couple of safaris in Africa I realized Capstick was full of it. I was big into Africa and bought every African hunting book I could find, mostly John Pondoro Taylor, Ruark, J.A. Hunter and one or two others. Then reading Capstick where he said those things happened to him, I realized I had read that same tale in a book written by African professional hunters and writers 25 years earlier. His tales were actually things that had happened to others and he just "borrowed" them.

he got a job as a security guard on a construction site. Dad rechambered the Enfield to .38 Special. You had to cut the nose off the 158 gr. factory loads, making about a 125/135 gr. full wadcutter. Otherwise the bullet stuck out the end of the cylinder and you could not cock the gun.

One night he caught 2 guys stealing coolers from the new homes and one of the guys threw down on him with a .30-30. Joe shot him in the leg with the Enfield and the bandit nearly bled to death from the massive wound.

The cops were impressed by its performance.

Go easy on them. Max rated pressure is 13,000psi. They stopped manufacturing them in the early 1920s, so Webley metallurgy isn't up to todays standards.

to shoot in the Webley for longer durability. While that's a general statement from the 1970's it's probably good advice. I bet it's a .454 bore too. Mr. Taffin did a good article on them a while back and I'm certain it has lots of important info, I'll revisit.

Some of the Police models with 4" and RB grip are asking $2k and more now.
