I've had a love/hate relationship with the Beretta 92

When I was a boy the single stack Egyptian Helwan and Italian heel button 92's were hard to come by and exotic. Then the Military booted out the 1911 .45 and adopted the Americanized 92 9mm. What red blooded American could embrace that?!

But reluctantly over the years I was forced to admit the open top was a nice feature and while HUGE the gun was light. That hugeness was due mostly to an open maw to house the 15, 17, 18+ round double stack mags. Even when little hands can barely hold the thing EVERYONE can shoot it very well! It is like shooting a .22 rimfire to me. The slide is also very easy to manipulate. They feed about anything well and are known for reliability as well as notable accuracy from the 5" barrel. It gives top 9mm ballistic performance. It's still a little awkward to admit how good it is in some mixed company, cigar smoke filled rooms with testosterone dripping and extolling the virtues of the 1911 or German wonder pistole. The Beretta does not fit well into the conversation.

I received a nice M96 from a good friend. It's not very remarkable other than it throws a 200 gr. bullet at 1050 fps to precise point of aim. It's powerful enough to fully replicate the .38-40 and holds a dozen rounds so I find it a bit more interesting. I think it might do for some light hunting as well as serve for a respectfully powerful field gun. I prefer the dovetail front sights of later models but alas. I do have a little trouble reaching the trigger.

Modern M92x

I have decided to make some personal modifications to see if I can renew some interest in this rig for me. Having tried several times to bid on some "Wilson" ultra thin G10 grips I finally threw in the towel on the overpriced and ordered some generic CNC starburst tan versions sans the $10 medallions, which I COULD buy and install myself. Wilson gets almost a $60 premium for just having those little buttons embedded in the plastic! I can't do that. I also ordered a Wilson (only game in town) "short" reach trigger to see if the combined thinner stocks and short trigger magically transform the overall feel for my purposes. Total outlay for the mods was a modest $50 so for playing around that's pretty reasonable.

The failed Military Beretta M9A4, in favor of the SIG 320 AKA M17 & 18. still a nice rig for us to have. Night sights, 18-shot flush mags, and optic, suppressor, ready.

I was wondering if anyone had tried this short trigger? It's ok to peek outside the closet.
