I learned something, interesting history.

Both Jim and Gary were correct in some of the information they remembered from memory.

Confirmed Shooter 24-year-old Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan. Kennedy was pronounced dead a day later, on June 6, 1968

Sirhan Sirhan’s .22-caliber Iver Johnson Cadet revolver held eight shots. Police said those bullets were accounted for, between the three shots that struck Kennedy and the five that struck five people standing behind him.

There is a theory that some hold true. That there was a second shooter/gun involved and perhaps as many as 13 shots fired. Conflicting directions of bullet hits etc. Of course there is some shakey evidence and some people refusing to interview etc. that only fuels speculation. It is true the guy who was charged for the murder is still in prison.

I do not use the term Sat. Nite Special as it holds no meaning. But this certainly falls into the classification of "Turd Gun" for me. If it's all you can afford it works well enough, but it's certainly not a nice example of the ilk. Right in line with the Italian Carcano used supposedly (wink, wink) on the senior Kennedy. It's almost like the shooters collectively shopped from the back of an outdoor catalog for surplus cheap crap weapons. It certainly served to fuel the hyperbole to get the GCA of '68 pushed through. Never let a (planned) crisis go to waste.

I'd hardly trust this as a snake tackle box gun. I guess they were pretty comparable to the H&R line back in the day. It's certainly not what one would want for a combat task, but arguably, it served it's evil purpose. It's only redeeming feature is it's mostly steel in construction. You had to poke the empties out one at a time, solid frame.

My bad, the photo is of a 5-shot .38 S&W

you can tell by the bolt stop cut-outs. The 8-shot had more, closer together (as this photo shows). They also made it in .22 Mag, likely the most effective caliber for the little snubby.

This confusion is part of what contributed to my failed memory of the fateful event.

Just my thoughts. It was not a lone wolf act.

The entire Kennedy legacy is clouded with speculation.

It has been rumored the Grandfather was connected to the Mafia and bootlegging but that has been well researched and thought to be misunderstood. He was a liquor importer and had business with the Mafia but Kennedy played it very smart to his great advantage. He made brilliant investments and was politically connected working the lines of legal/illegal but never crossing that line. He played it smart but his middle ground could have contributed somehow to getting sideways with the underworld. Flying close to the sun is always dicey.

Word is that old man Kennedy made the most from an investment in a faltering movie studio where he took stock rather than pay. Sold it for many millions.

He is a Massachusetts based reporter and author who wrote two books titled "Kennedy Babylon 1&2" . It is about all of the dirty dealing that the entire family was involved in.

Oh my. That’s almost inconceivable.

I have one of those but it’s .22 Short only. A 28 gr. HP at maybe 700 fps. Pellet gun ballistics!

You are correct Gary.

I remember seeing the gun after Reagan was shot and thinking "What the heck?" ... but then go back in time and think about the weapons used to kill or try to kill political leaders and quite often it is a little cheap piece of crap that a normal gun person would not even think about buying.
