Have Any Of You Used 4F Black Powder?
Thursday, June 16, 2022, 04:51

I have heard that 4F was for priming flintlocks only, have any of you used it for Cap and Ball revolvers? If so, did it increase velocity? Did it blow up your gun?
I’ve used 3F in 50 caliber muzzle stuffers, and it does increase velocity, recoil, and fouling. 50 caliber and up usually recommended using 2F. If you have used 4F, did you reduce the charge?
The reason I’m asking, is because with the shortages these days, I could only get 2 lbs of each granulation, so I ordered 3F and 4F, so I have a couple of pounds of 4F that I may not use (for priming) in my lifetime.
It would be nice if a Ruger Old Army (or any other cap and ball revolver)could reach Triple 7 velocities safely, using 4F. Has anyone seen or done any testing of this?
