A home made pipe gun and electric ignition with batteries. The powder came from fireworks, which are very common in Japan! Ironic, as it is a throwback to the first hand cannons invented by the Chinese!

I saw a photo of the gun lying in the street. It was two short barrels on a piece of wood. Looked like gas pipe with screw caps for breaches. The reports all cited “smoke” so I do think it was homemade black powder and hardware store materials. Very effective too.

he used electric ignition, like on a model rocket. An electric match, easy to make, as is black powder. You cannot stop someone that is determined and has the intellect. The report said two successful shots and noted "smoke" so I just bet he made it all himself.
