Reeder Custom Guns - A buddy had a Kimber Govt. Sized LW 1911

I was impressed with it overall. I have a thing for Alloy framed 1911 and HP handguns (that are good quality). It was not an expensive gun comparatively. A full 5” .45 1911, two tone with factory Novak type sights and dovetail front. I’ve not read about them much. What’s not to like?

Pro Eclipse II.

Stainless steel frame, 4" barrel, 2-tone black oxide & brushed stainless type of finish. It's an attractive piece. The tritium sights & magazine spring failed eventually. Other than that, it has been 100%.

I've read complaints about MIM internals & possibly plastic main spring housings. That seems less than ideal, but mine works. The guys on 1911 Addicts are not fond of Kimber.

I like the Dan Wesson offerings. Splits the difference between a production model & a custom house.

By some self confessed 1911 die-hards. With a sound platform you can do anything! Mainspring housings are cheap as are internals. Not many aluminum framed 1911 out there.

I love my kimber ultra carry trust my life and loved ones with it every day. I have a ruger 44 that I shoot really good ,but the kimber is easily hidden

That look like a really good value. Street price is $250-$300 under the Ruger Commanders (1/2 the price of some of the fancy DW) But no one seems to be ga-ga over the Kimbers for some reason. The gun looked great to me. I can change a $25 mainspring housing to suit. Sometimes shooters can be fickle.

I think Kimber was priced much higher 15 to 20 years ago, as compared to competing brands. Maybe that is where the negativity began. I'm not up to speed on current real world prices. I purchased my DW a few years back. Seem to recall DW for about $200 to $300 either side of $1K.

It was at BassPro or Cabelas etc. I see some advertised for just a bit more. The DW I looked at were listed at all over $1k, some almost $2k. Lots of different models though, fancy.

Hell, everything is expensive these days.

I traded into my Kimber in the early to mid 2000's time frame. One of the trades that I feel I did well. Think it was priced around $1K back then. The price tag is in the box, but the box is buried in the back of the closet.

Seem to recall they were originally promoted as custom shop type of guns & pricey. I'm guessing that the discovery of MIM parts & other materials angered some buyers.

I'm pleased with mine.
