357 shotshell loading

Waterboy, Scotty Boggs, is the man. He can provide good information on this. I either use the plastic shot capsules {best} or two .357 gaschecks with one over the powder and one over the shot.

i've done some in 44 mag used a starting load of unique with around 140g of #9 shot thin wads made from card stock one over powder and one over shot tried crimping but hot glue worked better

You may have to neck it down a bit.

Chamber to .357 Maximum. I did mine and it makes something useful into something truly interesting. I get 1650 fps from a 200 gr. in less than 9”. Even the .357 Max. case has small capacity for shot. Maybe 40-50 pellets of 7-1/2 shot. Smaller shot is better. I did a little work with the CCI blue capsules filling the max case and then the open bottom capsule. Gained maybe 20 more pellets.

The TC hot shots had a true 1/2 oz. of shot (both .357 and .44) but were near 2” long with the capsule sliding past the thrust into the rifling. That worked! True .410 shotgun patterns and velocity to exactly 30 yds. The .45/.410 works too and is great with #9 skeet loads.

The shot really needs some plastic buffer. It gets damaged compacted into a column and spun down the rifling. Released some fly wild. Anything works though, paper tube, plastic granules, etc. The easiest to toy with is a cardboard over powder wad, shot with plastic buffering, another card over shot wad it inverted gas check crimped in place. Full of #9’s it is a fair close snake gun.
