Cold-blued the barrel, refinished the stock, added a recoil pad ... loading some ammo to test.

Not a bad behind the door grab and go. You could club a moose to death with it and still shoot straight (if you keep the bayonet folded out). At dusk it takes a couple seconds to recover!

There was this little Russian fellow that came once with Manson's bunch. Igor or something like that. Brilliant and nice engineering fellow. He had a very well done custom 7.62x54R Mosin rifle. The weapon of Mother Russia as he said. Very powerful, for big bears said he. Well in the field, I think the corn patch, he potted a big old pig at point blank with the bear killer of Mother Russia. The hot took it between the eyes and just squealed and ran off! Probably more powder burned than mortally wounded. I figured at that angle it bounced off it's sloping skull, a wonder it did not knock it out cold, but there you are. It took a full magazine and more to finally get his hog. Igor was pretty reserved about the Mosin after that. Although he did recount the event with much expression and very big eyes! LOL I'm certain he's still telling the story.

Kase and I were walking down the road to where we parked my truck and past the big open field where the elk and buffalo hang out and heard a shot down in the deep ravine off to our left. Then another shot and another. We counted 10 rounds then it got quiet. Then it started again. One of the hunters came up the hill out onto the road in front of us and said he wanted to get out of the firefight going on down in the ravine. It seems the hunter was a newbie and never hunted before. He had a Mini 14 with a couple of mags. He spotted a turkey and decided he wanted a turkey dinner. He shot (at our last count) nearly 30 rounds at that turkey. From about 20 yards every time he saw the turkey flap a wing or move at all, he took another shot. Lord knows he wouldn't want a wounded turkey running around the area. He might attack one of us.
One of the guys at the skinning shed later said the guy was not one of our guys and when it was all over he ended up with one leg and most of a drumstick, but he got his turkey.

he kept saying he was a Leprechaun. Funny, and really a nice guy. We saw him out with his party and he was shooting at a very old and nice horned trophy sheep. Beautiful and expensive old boy. He was using African sticks and a FA M83 I assume in .454. He emptied the gun and missed totally. You could tell he was all beat up by it. Both physically and mentally. The old sheep kept eating some corn it had found, likely stone deaf. Then He switched to a little M4 AR that the guide offered with some type of red dot sight. Sure enough he was all punchy from the .454 and using an unknown arm he missed about 10-12 shots.

By this time the guys were beginning to rag him a bit and he finally stopped, the old sheep went off to find a quieter place to chew it's cud. lol Flinching can happen to anyone, I've fought it myself. Shooting at a $3500 fancy TX sheep makes it even worse. But a man needs to pick a reasonable place to quit.
