This is a photo of Betty Lynn (aka Thelma Lou, Barney Fife's girlfriend) in Burma during World War Two. Against her mother's wishes and fears, she joined the USO right out of high school and helped entertain the troops. She is believed to have been the only female who visited soldiers on the dangerous Burma Road. She's carrying a pistol because one of the men she was with advised her to carry it. A brave and patriotic lady!
