Long Shot On A Coyote
I was standing out near the gate to the pasture when I saw a coyote sneaking around at the far fence line. I had my wife's Model 600 Remington in .243 with me, so I leaned over the gate and rested the rifle on my hand on the gate.
I got the coyote in the crosshairs as it stopped and I raised them up till they were near the top of its back. I knew it was sighted dead on at 250 yards and this was further.
I pulled the trigger and lost the coyote due to recoil, but I heard a dull WHOP come back. I got onto the coyote in time to see it spinning around, snapping at its left side, then it fell over.
My son-in-law was watching and started yelling "YOU GOT HIM! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!" He volunteer to run out and get the coyote .. which he did. Coming back he tried to step off the distance. His estimate was 350 yards. It was a long way, I know that.
The load was the Nosler 95 gr. Partition bullet at a bit over 3200 fps.
The arrow on the photo points to the far fence where I hit the coyote.

Dandy! Great you took a photo to remember.
Long time ago Gary told me to take bunches of pictures. Back then, when you took that photo, it was quite an undertaking. Sending off the film, hoping the photo was good. In this digital age and phone cameras there is no excuse for not recording things.
I had a Remington 600 in 6mm Remington myself. Other than the plastic safety and pencil barrels they were great handy rifles that shot great. As a kid I even liked the plastic vent rib. I really like the 6mm Remington, basically a .24 Roberts.
Ours did not have a plastic safety or a vent rib.
I spent a lot of time figuring the proper load for it and had it sighted a quarter inch high at 25 yards which put it dead on at 250. And it was only a few inches up or down out to 275. Shooting deer my wife basically held "ON" and whacked them. I don't think she ever shot one much past 100 yards. My girls used it also. They liked the small gun and the light recoil. Took their first deer with it. Using the Nosler Partition bullets we never had to shoot a deer more than once and got complete penetration except on lengthwise shots.
I am sure there are bullets that are more accurate than the Partition bullet but I never tried one that worked better in game in this caliber.
Maybe I'm mixing up the safety with the XP100
but this is actually what I had. I traded it to Doug's Dad. He shot several whitetails, maybe his brother used it too.

I have seen them. Ours did not have the rib or the sight ..
