5.56 in a G2 223 bbl?
With all the talk about band on AR’s I was just wondering if a G2 battle in .223 and a Gn2 frame can handle 556 ammo? I have a small stockpile of 556 ammo and only AR’s to shoot it. I do have a G2 Carbine bbl in 223..
I’ve read articles discouraging military amno in
Commercial .223 chambers with rational sounding reasons. Thicker necked brass and throat dimensions, elevated pressures. However I’ve thrown caution to the wind and have fired thousands of military rounds through Contenders, Mini-14, and various bolt action .223 rifles in complete happily ignorant bliss.
But, it’s your body and you should research the topic yourself to make a personal decision.
To my thinking an engineer would be very short sighted
Not to think many would desire to shoot the ample supply military ammo in commercial chambers. They are goofballs if they didn’t know that. The diabolical military primer crimps are the only momentary impedance for reuse too.
I use military brass for reloading my fodder and forming brass into everything from .351 Winchester to 7.62x25 Tok.

contracts you designed and built what the government ordered no matter how stupid.
unless the box says right there "only uses in
a 5.56" or "only in a 223", then go by their suggestion. Otherwise go with whatever you can find. The AR-15 came out in the late '60s and all the 5.56 ammo was going to Viet Nam. All we had was 223 and we used that every day and never had any problems. We had the Colt AR-15 and the ugly little Bushmaster and the 223 worked perfectly in them. I had an XP-100 in 223 that I used groundhog hunting and I used the standard stuff off the shelf before I started loading my own. Here is a box of PMC ammo that says it all.
