here in AR of some Black Bear acting very aggressively. It scared the crap out of me! I seldom walk in our woods unarmed. BUT sometimes only a .22 LR or maybe a .38 Snubby.

To seriously dissuade a determined Bear you'd want something more. I'm reminded of the late instances of youth and hogs at HHC. Their finding out that the .45 ACP is not a big game stopper. Even with ball ammo and a whole bunch of rounds. It was very entertaining.

It really makes me think. My potential encounters are Crack-Heads, Bobcats, Panthers, and Black Bear, likely in that order of concern. A man needs to ponder some while walking out alone in the woods.

I'm seldom scared of 4 legged animals,

you can usually read their intent and following actions. It's the 2 legged animal that I might run across that scares me. No telling what they might do next.

Hearing this HHC story makes me re think taking

my 45 acp when I go feral hog hunting next month. Good thing is its only about 10 miles from the house , but the reports are some are very aggressive. No fence, the land I will be on is a peninsula between 2 rivers.

What ammo were thay using at the hhc, hardball? I will be using flat point + p stuff as my scouting / backup side arm.

I am putting a 350 Legend AR pistol together with a red dot and scoping my 41 mag Hunter as my primary hunting arms.

Have to stay light weight as I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery.

May borrow Ethans Encore 475 Linebaugh !

The .350 is good, even from a shorter barrel.

basically like the .357 Maximum, a little more actually. Mine is 16" and I got 2100 fps from 200 gr. cast bullets. That is enough. I used .358 gas check bullets for the .35 Remington and resized to .356 for my custom loads.

HHC the boys were using 230 gr. FMJ, RN I think. One fellow had a 8-shot SIG and emptied his rig to be totally empty handed with a still very alive hog. The other was a running melee with a 15-shot FN pistol finally doing the deed after a bit of a muffed shot with a single-shot hunting pistol. But it took a lot.

Some lessons learned.

I like 1000 fps at minimum and at least 200 grs. for hogs, more is always better provided you are accurate.

Mine is a 10.5 inch barrel, will be running factory ammo

.45 acp ball ammo-- had he hit the sow in the ear/ eye area likely the story would have been different... it was funny for me and my grandson to watch Andy and the other guy run around my jeep over and over chasing her. i have never and any interest in the .45 acp-- just remember why it was created and it was not for pigs. Adien and I were in andy and his dad Wes room... I told Wes that andy was the "fruit of his loom" all he said was "I know" great story nice guys. all ended well even for the sow.. she had no teeth... old? and weighed 506
