Butchering up plastic SIG “modules”.
In a previous post I mentioned I was going to modify a Wilson SIG X-carry module from a 17-shot flush mag to the X-Compact 15-shot. A very subtle change but one I wanted.
The Wilson X-module had a flair on the bottom that felt good but was sort of grabby on clothing. I bought one 15-shot mag ($50) and will use the original X-Carry 17’s for back up. They just stick out about 3/8”.

The Wilson material did not mill all that well. It was rather grabby. Seemed like my end mill was dull, but I knew it wasn’t. The material is very hard like DuPont Rynite, but does not machine near as well. The frame too was a little springy, one end in vice and the mill pushing on the other end. I went slow and made teeny passes as I got to where the mag latch snapped into the magazine recess and locked. It was a challenge to keep the X-Y axis level, it’s close. I figure you could use a fixed sander but what a chore. It would require a delicate hand an sharp eyes. I have neither.
The mag well bevel is an engineered consideration. The mags have a “boot” on them that must clear that mag well bevel to fully seat. This created extra work each time I trimmed the grip length, a new bevel was needed to test the mag.

The only reason I did this mod was I ordered the wrong module from Wilson. But it was an interesting exercise and I think it will work better for me. My work is cleaning up well with fine sanding and Swiss files. My fitting is much more precise and flush compared factory.
