went on to read about someone relining an old Winchester barrel, forget the caliber at the moment but it was a bottle necked higher pressure round. The logic behind the reline was that the old nickel steel didn't take rifling that well with a simple boring out to larger caliber and then rifling. Hmmm... I think it was an Ed Harris article on, IF my memory isn't failing me worse than usual, a 35/30-30 wildcat. Of course I might be confusing two different articles recently read.
