Reeder Custom Guns - Trail Boss powder and the 22 K Hornet?

Hello All:

I like to tote my TC 22 K Hornet through the woods for varmints, but I would like to find a good small game load.

Has anyone used Trail Boss in a 22 Hornet or K Hornet? Can you use it for a jacketed bullet?

I tried some searching but to no avail. Thank you all.

But not compressed. Shot fine but a little Smokey. Hit POA in the old Colt pistol too. Chronograph showed disappointing velocities, 525-550 fps.

In the hornet it might work with lead bullets, which is the intended use of Trail Boss, but I’d be afraid of sticking a jacketed bullet. Not enough capacity, IMO.

Powder varieties are somewhat scare.

I did find a load of 8.1 grains of Alliant 2400 which should push a 40 grain Sierra SP bullets at 2000 fps. Kind of like a 22 WRM rifle.

The Lyman Manuals have a lot of Cast Bullet loads

Not sure how they would work with regular bullets

but I did experiment with the .22 K-Hornet and TB. I was using a 45 gr. cast GC bullet and it was difficult to get it subsonic (my objective). It was rather pointless in the end. I was getting .22 WRF performance (not .22 WMR). Perhaps if you were working with heavier bullets 55+ grs. it might have subsonic merit.

Overall the K-hornet is good but the brass is fragile compared to many others. Shoulder splits, loose primer pockets, head separations appear a little early. If you back off max just a bit it really adds longevity. I find the .218 Bee (on the .25-20 WCF case) much easier to work with.

I tried it in .32-20 using cast bullets, full case

I'll have to see if I can get some.
