The problem is LR primers are "longer" than LP ..

by about .100" if I remember correctly. To seat them flush you have to really mash them out of shape.

My Dad made a reamer to deepen the primer pocket so LR primers could be seated properly. These were in .45 Colt. I shot a bunch of them. They are harder than LP primers and some DA guns and some of the Ruger New Model pistols won't set them off reliably.

Also, pressure testing showed an increase in pressures so the powder charges need to be lowered. How much I have no clue for the only caliber I did that with was the .45 Colt.
