Reeder Custom Guns - The old H&R Pistol is Coming Along!

I am about at the point to start putting it together.

The only thing I need is a cylinder hand. This one is gone. It's a little bitty thing about an inch and a quarter long.

If you have something similar in your junk drawer I am interested.

get a peach to work on! I think there are enough of those around that you might even find an old parts gun. But wouldn't you know I've bought parts guns to fix one rig and it ended up having the same parts broken! I've even seen those literally brand new in the box. Folks bought them with absolutely no intention of ever shooting them. They placed them in the underwear drawer and left it there for 50 years, twice!

I've had a couple S&W in both .32 and .38 and was less than impressed. But they seemed much superior in build quality to the H&R, H&A, Iver Johnson etc. It looks like you are having fun tinkering and I have no doubt you will get it snapping.

I took on a charity case myself trying to get functioning "Grandpaw's" store gun. It's a Spanish mix of Colt & S&W in .38 Colt no less. However it chambers .38 Special Cases! Yikes!!! I think either the hand or hand spring is loose or broken. I'll open it up soon, post you a picture. He also brought me a Nagant rifle that is loose in the stock. That's an easy fix with some glass bedding. He's a good kid though and a budding HHC participant.

I pushed a .358 bullet through the bore and it was tight!

engaged the rifling on that one. What are the chambers like? I'll admit to never having messed with 38 S$W, but have done a lot with the 38 Spl. Now you've got me thinking on the lines of using a 38 Spl sizer to "neck" the 38 S$W brass enough to grip a .358 cast slug. But that's just me cogitating here between the Canal and the Equator while sipping coffee on this warm winter's day.

but they will work with low pressure loads and using cut-off .38 Special brass and a round ball. :-)

No. The lifter is the link that lifts the hammer.

I found a cylinder hand .. now need a mainspring.
