Reeder Custom Guns - Bushnell 2x6 handgun scope

I am looking for experience and opinions on whether or not this scope will hold up on a 500sw?

"the recoil of large handgun calibers" but then so do most other scope companies. There is no way to know until you try it. I had $11 in scopes to come apart in one afternoon. I had an Africa hunt coming un down near the Cape and the shots were to be long so I decided to put a new more powerful scope on my 38 GNR Encore. I pulled a new Leupold 2.5 X 8 scope off the shelf here at the gun shop, put it on the barrel, bore sighted it and drove 25 miles out to an area in the boonies where I shoot my guns. After the 3rd shot the scope came apart internally. I went back to the shop, pulled a new 4X12 Burris scope off the shelf, adjusted and bore sighted it and drove back out to my shooting spot. Just like the Leupold the Burris scope came apart internally after 3 or 4 rounds. I took it off, put my old 2X7 Burris scope back on and used it in Africa taking several animals at longer range. But in one afternoon I blew up 2 high dollar scopes. The companies fixed them but the gist of this is any scope can go bad on a heavy kicking handgun.
I think I have had every scope brand there is go bad on me thru the years. The best you can do is make sure it is put on the gun right and take an extra scope with you if you go hunting. Personally I don't think one could expect a scope to last long on a gun in 500 S&W caliber.

My suggestion and my personal opinion here is forget the 500 S&W. There is no animal out there that needs the power of the 500 S&W. Either me or one of my misfit friends on here have taken every animal that you can hunt in this old world of ours with calibers much much less abusive to the shooter and handgun than the 500 S&W. Again personally I see no need in the handgun hunting world for that caliber. It is just not necessary. Take this last paragraph as a personal opinion only.

A fixed power scope has half the number of parts/lens to shake loose. Of all things I used a little Simmons 4X for a "sight in, load development" working scope on my .500 Max. Encore and other Reeder GNR caliber heavies. Why beat up your best optics. The little Simmons has a lifetime warranty (transferable) and I've only killed one all these years. It cost me $15 shipping to get a brand new one, they don't fix them, just give you another.

Simmons 44 Mag. We sold them or installed them on rifles as quick as we could get them in. Not sure what ever happened to them but I never seem them anymore.

I built up in .350, way more scope than the caliber can use but I like to zoom in. I think they were 2.5-10x or something odd like that, a good cheap scope.

they came out with a lot of handgun scopes in unusual power settings, like 1X, 3X, 5X, 7X and 10X plus 3 or 4 variables. handgun hunters jumped on them immediately. We carried all of them in our gun shop back then and sold a ton of them. Before that Burris wasn't a popular name as very few people had even heard of them. But handgun hunters put them on the map.
Then in the last 2 or 3 years Burris has thrown the handgun hunters under the bus and I think they have dropped everything except the 2X and one of the variables. Their big thing these days is the big thermal and night vision scopes plus one that is a range finder/scope combo and runs about $4000. It would seem to me that selling 20 of their 4X handgun scopes at a decent price would be a better marketing thing than one big monster scope that only a small percentage of the shooters can afford. But what do I know.

destroyed by man, and in this business I sure believe that. We got a high dollar Swarovski scope in on a gun trade in a while back that had a $2000 Swarovski scope on it. We didn't know it was bad until we checked it out after the trade was finished and the owner had left. .In most cases if the scope is a high dollar scope I don't worry about checking it out. If the gun shoots and functions fine that is all we worry about.

After finding out the scope was bad we sent it back to the company and at first they gave us a bunch of crap trying to get out of fixing it. I think I heard Colleen talking to them on the phone in the last day or two and I guess they are going to fix it. But they sure wanted to get out of standing behind the scope.

A few years back when the big box stores started selling package gun/scope deals we had a LOT of bad Vortex scopes. In fact we quit carrying them completely. I assume the bad ones were limited to being on the package deals in the big box stores, but to this day I am very hesitant to take a Vortex scope in on a trade. If we get a gun in on a trade or we buy a used gun with a Vortex scope on it I really check it out before we go thru the deal. And we still don't carry the Vortex scopes in the gun shop.

Burris, Leupold, Nikon, Weaver, and Tasco pistol scopes back for repair, but never a Bushnell. Your mileage may vary.

brand there is but I have sent several Bushnells back for repair.

When our shop was in Florida several years back we used to sell a LOT of the Tasco World Class scopes, handgun and rifle. We never had any problem with them. Somehow they got a bad reputation as being a junk scope but as far as I know we never had a bad one. In fact if I see one of the 3X Tasco handgun scopes I grab it to go on one of my TC barrels. The scopes had a tiny dot in the crosshairs and had a 30mm body. The only problem we had was finding 30mm rings for the scopes. Kase and I both used the Tasco handgun scopes and never ever had any problem with them. In fact one of the snipers in the sand box stopped in the shop one day after getting back in the states and told us one of the snipers had a very expensive Tasco scope on his sniper rifle. I don't know how true that was but he described the scope completely and sure sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

I send them back and they repair them and send them back in about 4-5 weeks. I am still waiting on a Leupold that Leupold could not repair. The replacement has taken over a year now, and I am still waiting. It’s just apart of handguning.
