The little Ruger American and Savage too. It would be a tough call for me. I've only examined the Ruger so far. I'd love to hear what you come up with. The Ruger of course, does not come with sights. A simple red dot would be easy for fast close shooting.
With sights from the factory the Savage might be the only one, for bolt guns.
For the price a Ruger Ranch with a red dot is

probably really hard to beat...and that may be what I come up with. This morning I just put a bunch of rounds through my 1894CB - so of course now a short lever gun sounds handy. Just trying to think of something handy for a truck gun now that my state has banned AR's.

prairie dog hunting with Kase so I bought the Savage heavy barrel 22-250. I don't remember which model it was but I was very pleased with it. It was their top end rifle with the special trigger, magazine fed, full camo and all that stuff.
Mossberg MVP rifles have been good for me
