Dog Attack
Never go into the hills without a gun!
We had dog packs in the mountains of southeast Arizona and had them come after us when we were riding our horses on the trails. I had my .45 with me -always- and shot one of them. At the shot the others immediately were gone into the brush.
I got into a large dog pack that was chasing a herd of cows. They never barked or made any noise. When I started shooting them the packed scattered in all directions away from me and were gone in seconds.f
Used to be years ago that people would band together and do drives to push the dog packs to where they could be eliminated.
Or even a walk in the park
Closest I've ever come to pulling a gun out of necessity was walking the 3 mile loop in the local wildlife management area. 2 older women were walking dogs and one of them (dogs not women) was a pit mix with a head bigger than mine. They got off the trail but that dog wanted a piece of me and she could barely hold on to it. I had my hand on my 38 and thought, why do people even keep dogs like that? If that had gotten away from her and it had been some little kid, they'd be done for.

there's some folks who shouldn't even own a poodle, much less a dog more powerful than themselves. The three pit mixes in our local "dog club" (group of folks hanging out and letting their pups play together) are the least likely to cause problems of the whole bunch. Raised right is the key.

a nice 10 mm auto would have been handy ... or most any reasonable handgun.
a good sized belt knife is never a bad idea either,,, but not as the primary weapon

There are an awful lot of folk running around that ran amok with no parental or other discipline as children. Not having learned self control respect for others as children they STILL expect the world to revolve around them as "adults".

it astounds me how many folks go out with out extra ammo, and even with only a partial magazine load.
