City holster alternative for the SRH Alaskan. Gary

has sold quite a few customs based on this gun, and this might be of help to owners seeking a "concealment" holster.

There are holsters made for the gun, but most are chest and crossdraw rigs for the outdoors, and what isn't, seems to be mostly bulky pancakes putting the baseball cylinder hard on beltline and hip bone. I was wanting a high ride to get cylinder higher and with less leather than a kidney belt.

This holster, a Galco Silhouette High Ride, is made for the 2.5" S&W N-frame, I looked it up by searching for the 327 Nighthawk 2.5". It can be made to fit with no great difficulty, is normally in-stock, and ready to wear with only a day or so of following their FAQ directions on holster break in, and maybe your favorite holster interior slickum to accelerate matting of the rough side interior, no wet forming required.

It is not a perfect custom for the well heeled discriminating shooter. There are the molded flutes, and the outboard upper hump to cover rear sight to protect jacket/coat liners just barely does its job, but it works.

On the plus side, the Galco tries hard to get bulk off of belt line and succeeds. Carry is about the same comfort and seeming weight as a 1911 IWB, even though a loaded .45 magazine heavier. Being a huge pistol, a rounded bulge will print, but it not a problem for areas with common carry, while keeping gun covered to resist snatching.
