Africa

Another amazing trip to Africa. As others mentioned, it was hard hunting in thick bush. I hunted with my Reeder custom Winchester 70 in 9.3x62mm and my wife, Danielle, hunted with her Weatherby in 308. We also brought a contender in 338 GNR but weren't as comfortable with it as we are with out rifles. Danielle was impressive with her shots, probably the most difficult she's had to take and only used 1 round per animal.

Golden wildebeest, shot at 30-40 yards through thick brush. I could see part of his chest and part of his face.

Danielle's kudu, shot at about 50 yards through brush so heavy we could only see the tip of the horns and part of the neck. She hit it in the spine on the neck and it dropped where it stood.

Black impala, shot at about 20 yards as it ran through brush.

Waterbuck, shot at 80-something yards over a watering hole.

Giraffe, brain shot at about 60 yards as it's head was over a tree.

What ammo/bullet was used in the .308?

She was using a Barnes

Vor-tx 150g TTSX BT. It's not my first choice of bullet but her Weatherby Vanguard groups nicely with them. And a few years ago we stocked up and that was all we could find at the time. Her shot on the impala punched all the way through. It was a quartering away shot and she just nicked its heart. The waterbuck was on the shoulder. It ran maybe 80 yards and piled up dead. That bullet was still in the body but the skinner forgot to return it. The kudu she hit in the spine and the bullet was found just inside the skin on the other side of the neck. I'll find a picture of that recovered bullet and post it shortly.

From 150g down to 93g

That isn't bad for a Barnes bullet. Normally
