Several years back we built several 585 Nyati

rifles on the Ruger #1. The gun weighed 12 lbs and the 585 Nyati put out 169 foot pounds of recoil. When I shot it my face on the right side was numb for a half hour. I was wearing contacts then and we had to put down a tarp to catch the contacts as they flew out on recoil. My nose bled for an hour and my teeth on the right side of my jaw were loose for 2 days. Other than that I had a good time.
One fellow demanded we use his stock from a Weatherby MK5 in 460 Weatherby. I told him I did not recommend it as it had a lot of figure in the wood and that meant sap which meant a weak spot. But he demanded so we took a video of it. At the shot the stock flew into probably 10 pieces. I had a splinter in my cheek that we had to pull out. The owner finally relented and we used a Ruger #1 for his gun.
I think we built either 8 or 10 of them before I had all I could handle.
If you have seen the video of the "arabs" shooting the Tyrannosaurus Rex, then you can see what the 585 Nyati does as they are basically the same cartridge. The 585 Nyati is a 750 grain bullet at 2487 fps, which is 10,300 foot pounds of energy and 180 foot pounds of recoil. As a comparison the 500 Nitro, which we have built quite a few of, has a bit over 5800 foot pounds of energy compared to 10,300 foot pounds in the 585 Nyati. By the way a 30-06 has 20 foot pounds of recoil. All this data can be found in Cartridges of the World, by the way.
Also a few months after that I had to have surgery on my right shoulder and 5 screws used to put it back together. So if any of you decide you want a 585 Nyati it will be built on your Ruger #1 and you do the test firing on it.
For reference I will show the 585 Nyati when I get to the shop tomorrow.
Ha ha ! I've seen those Arabs trying to shoot

My 500 Nitro encore rifle only weighs 6.5 lbs. the 570 grain slugs at 2150 fps pushed by 115 gr of powder comes out to 158 foot pounds of recoil. I guess I am a lightweight. I don’t have screws holding my shoulder together like you either.
Pussy. Your 416 Rigby puts out 5200 foot pounds of energy
