On a blued revolver do you have to reblue the whole gun?

scratched up in the lathe when we do the Deep Dish Crown we can touch up the crown with a polish similar to what some of the firearm manufacturers use on their crowns or like the polish Ruger uses on the sides of their blued hammers.
