A 44 just isn't perfect medicine for a big Brown Bear

One has to remember a 44 Magnum has almost exactly the same power as a 30-30 and I would feel undergunned with a 30-30 in Brown Bear country.I have danced with 3 bears in my sordid lifetime and even in a 510 GNR and 2 hot loaded rounds the bear didn't give up the ghost right then. It took another round to end the situation. The other 2 were with a 44 Magnum and a 41 GNR. Neither did the job right then. I know it is all in bullet placement but the first 2 510 GNRs went collar bone to off side ribcage twice, one on each side at these were at kissing distance and he still ran off, which meant I had to go in after him. That was pucker city. But it worked. Anyway, I guess it is all up to you on what caliber you use in dangerous game territory. A while back a gun writer had an article on what calibers to carry just in case of bears or mountain lions. One of the main calibers he mentioned was 9mm. I haven't read anything from that idiot since then.
Gary, wish you had time to put your hunting stories

there were 5000 copies of each one. The first book sold out a while back I think I have maybe 350 or so of the second book, Hunting Handguns and their cartridges. I will have to look around and see if I have any of the first book left. The second book is available at our gun shop at 928-527-4100. It is $40.

a 3rd book, but as I publish my own books the money has to come out of my pocket. And I don't have $25,000 in my piggy bank right now.
