The locking bolt is at an angle and the bolt just hammers back and up. A guy who has long since passed worked on them and the Winchester 94 for several years trying to get them to work. All told .. if I remember correctly .. he wrecked 19 rifles trying to get them to work.
Freedom Arms tried it in the 94. I shot the gun before it loosened up and started hammering itself apart. Winchester was thinking of converting some and Bob Baker sent them their test results. Winchester dropped the idea.
