On the Range the last couple days ...
got out fairly early before the heat came on ... shooting .22 rimfires for awhile. Having a good time with them, shooting both paper targets for groups and busting clay pigeons on the berm of the Range, practicing drawing and shooting and point shooting. I shot from 15 yards to 25 yards both days. I need to keep this up for awhile. By the end of the second day my offhand groups were smaller and I was breaking more clays with the first or second shot.

Shotting a .22 rifle...
I have a Winchester Model 69 .22 bolt action rifle my Dad bought many years ago. He gave it to me and I have fired many thousands of rounds through it. One time, many years ago, I was looking at a sign on a post about 100 feet away and wondered if I could hit it without using the sights... I took the rear sight and "turned it sideways" so it wasn't even in my picture. I fired at that sign over 100 feet from me. Trying to hit it in the middle of the sign.... When I went over to it I found all 5 bullet holes were withing a 2 inch circle on the sign.
I'm not saying I'm that good of a shot but I KNEW how the rifle felt in my hands when it was on the target... once you've held and fired a rifle that many times you know how to hold it so it's on target...
Something about shooting .22's that's just fun!
I enjoy taking the 9 year old grandson with me and watching him shooting his great-grandpa's single shot Steven's .22. Of the various 22's we have that is his favorite. And he is getting pretty good with it!
