to change his lever door handles to round knobs for that very fact! Bears can let themselves in. He said he keeps his trash in shipping containers until he can haul if off? They try to get in there too. I have a friend in Trukee, CA who opened their bedroom door to find a med size black bear at the kitchen table licking up the remnants of pancake syrup! She yelled BEAR (!) to the rest of her family and shut the door, lol. It got a little excited and broke the pivoting horizontal window going back out. Last they saw it was headed back to the woods with a large box of cereal in it's mouth. LOL They also have a refrigerator in the garage that has been assaulted by bears before.
Here in AR the bear population is really growing. In the mid to late 1800's they were about hunted out. Supposed to have been Grizzlies here too?! I've grown soft on bears (Blackies) in my old age. I don't think I want a trophy one anymore, it's complicated. Still want a Pronghorn and Axis... I'll have to save up. At night however I'm a little apprehensive responding to a chicken ruckus in the barn armed with only a flashlight and my pocket .380!
Bear visit.

My boss's sister went to check in on her neighbors house while they were away last month and discovered just what the local bear thought of the neighbors. The bear broke the bedroom window, climbed in then rolled around on the bed to be sure it was just right. Before it left through the same window and without going into the rest of the house it left a huge pile of everything it had eaten prior to entry right smack in the middle of the bed.
