We had a good Sunday school lesson over I Samuel. David was of course an ancestor in the lineage of Jesus' earthly birth.
I was/am troubled by the lesson. I was forced to admit and confess that I KNEW in my heart that I would have killed King Saul stone dead given the first chance. I truly would have. Also, I would have justified it, like David's men had it figured. I'd have decided that God himself laid him out before me, easy pickings, and get the ball rolling to the throne. I would have failed the test, twice! BUT David was truly in tune with God and his will, teachings. He depended on God for his daily survival for ten years running and hiding from Saul and his army of 3000 hit men. The throne was already promised to David, Samuel had even anointed him for the job.
David knew that God would not present him with a situation that went against the teachings and the law. No matter if it was humanly justifiable and expeditious. MAN I'M HUMBLED. I need some serious work, I'm not there yet. David did not hesitate to spare Saul's life twice. As I said I knew in my heart I'd sure would have killed him and that is what troubled me. David was deeper in tune with the spirit. I just thought I was, pretty good. I need work, I want to be more like David.
