Range Day - Therapy With A .45

Sometimes you just need to get back to real-sized stuff to connect or re-connect. Lately I had been playing with sub-caliber stuff. .35 caliber sixguns, .35 caliber autoloaders, .36 caliber percussion guns. All real nice. All good shooters. All of 'em easy on lead and powder. But I began hankering for something normal ... not the little bitty stuff. So I went and dug out my .45 Colt Ruger that John Linebaugh built for me so many years ago.

Do you know how good it feels to get hold of a cartridge that is larger around than a pencil? And those huge holes in the cylinder! They are easy to get a big cartridge to slide into. Ah ... so slick. And easy to shoot. I had 3 different loads. One with the Keith SWC 454424 over 15 gr. of 2400 ... one with the old 454190 round nose over 7.0 gr. of Green Dot ... and one with J.D. Jones SSK 270 gr. flat nose over 6.2 gr. of Green Dot. They all shot well. I got the best group of the day with the old 454190 bullet. That could most likely be because I had more of them than the other combined and spent quite a bit of time shooting them from various positions.

It was good therapy for me!
