Quite often I get folks ask what gun should I buy for

various purposes. That is a hard one to answer as I don't know their situations where they might need a gun. But over the past few weeks and maybe a month or so here are a couple that I was very impressed with and would have no problems recommending them.
First for full concealment the new Ruger LCP would be hard to beat. It is tiny, fits in a pocket perfectly and is chambered in 380 which isn't a great amount of power but better than a 22 or 25. The trigger pull is easy and great for a lady or actually anyone that wants to carry something in a pocket and from Ruger you know it is a good one. With no hammer sticking up there is nothing to snag in a pants pocket or purse. This is a good one.

Now to go to the other end of the spectrum, the Taurus 44. This beauty would be hard to beat for someone that hikes in bad areas but maybe doesn't want to carry a big 7" revolver or scoped handgun. The new Taurus model 44 is tuff and beefy. It is about the best fit revolver I have seen in a long time. It is not something that just came out. It has been out for a while but this is the first time I have had a chance to try one out. The gun says "made in Brazil" on the sideplate but the parts were assembled in their big new plant in Georgia and they do a great job. I saw not one blemish on the gun. The trigger is good .The barrel/cylinder gap is right at .002 where it is supposed to be. The stainless steel finish is about perfect. The 4" barrel is ported and between the porting, the soft rubber grips and the gun being fairly heavy this should hold the recoil down to easily manageable. The 4" barrel is about the perfect size to be a hip holster revolver for those bad areas that you shouldn't be in anyway.
With a 4" barrel it is probably not the best hunting gun but is perfect as a sidearm when hunting with a rifle.
The cylinder holds 6 big 44 Magnums and is plenty beefy enough for those hot factory loads. The price is also right being a couple hundred below the guns of the same quality in the U.S. And with Taurus' lifetime warranty it would be hard to beat.
All in all I like it and am very impressed by this revolver.

From time to time I will try to let you know the good and bad points on some of the guns we have out today. I am quite disappointed by our current gun magazines who only promote the most expensive gun out there, or a new cartridge that they say is the fastest cartridge in the world. Or they promote a gun that is lacking everything they say the gun has. If all gun writers were like John Taffin we could believe our favorite gun magazines like we did back in the 60s and 70s. Unfortunately, those days are gone.
The points I will bring up are my own opinions and are not to bad mouth the gun you took your first deer or elk with. On the other hand it is just to give you the opinion of a worn out gun maker that has seen all of the good points and bad points in today's firearms. So take it as just that and nothing more.
