More .45 Shooting Today

Took the Linebaugh Ruger to the Range again today. Testing a couple loads. The old Lyman 454190 .45 Colt bullet was cast of pure lead. I did not load them heavy ... 6.0 gr. of Green Dot.

The Keith semi-wadcutter 454424 was cast of hard alloy and I loaded it over 7.5 gr. of Green Dot.

The Keith bullet has always been accurate for me.

I had a 75 or 80 of the pure lead 454190's and wanted to see how they worked. I don't think the 6 gr. of Green Dot did over 800 fps. The barrel stayed clean .. no leading. But accuracy was not consistent.

The Keith sWC on the other hand is pretty accurate with any powder charges I have tried. The ally with these is fairly hard and they can be pushed quite a lot faster. I don't need 'em running more than 900 fps and they are more accurate than I can shoot. :-)

powder coat them for snubby expanding loads. The powder would encapsulate them and basically make them plastic jacketed. I've never had much luck with low velocity (under 1000-1200 fps) HP stuff, jacketed or not. Sort of a do-it-yourself Nycad ammo. We've even carried full WC to help enhance .38 Spec./ .32 Cal. terminal performance up close.

*Man do the little .32 pocket revolvers shoot well!
