computer to come back to life I was bored silly so I decided to clean out my desk and desk drawers. I found all kinds of stuff I had forgotten. One was a note I got from a good friend that I haven't seen in a couple of years. Some of you that watch a lot of hunting videos may remember Mark Sullivan. Mark was known for his video Black Death, where he was standing about 15 feet from a wounded Cape Buffalo. The buff got us and came at him in a split second and Mark stood there until the buff was maybe 3 feet from him before he pulled the trigger on his double rifle.
Mark sort of specialized in close encounters with Cape Buffalo, hippos, lions and other dangerous critters. The man was and is a great friend. If you look up "gentleman" in the dictionary you would see a picture of Mark.
As he became "famous" and more well known he got a lot of flack from jealous Professional Hunters all over. They would bad mouth him constantly. Kase made a comment that he had to have a wheelbarrow to carry his big balls around. And he sure had them. He had more "balls" than any other PH I have ever known, except maybe for John Abraham, our PH over the last 30 years.
Mark used to come up to the shop here in Flagstaff with his wife every month or so. He would spend the day talking dangerous game hunting. He would always bring us a copy of his latest hunt video where he stood his ground against the buffalo and hippos along with lions and leopards until the last second.
I haven't seen or talked to Mark in a few years. The last I heard he was bummed out about all the bad press he was getting from the other PHs. He said he was thinking of moving to Washington and maybe being a PH for hunters in Alaska. Either way he will always be a good friend and a gentleman.

I still watch them during a long winter here in Fairbanks. As well as a few others. Lynn Thompson from cold steel comes to mind.

The 2 I liked most were the Black Death and the one

where he was hunting hippos and they charged him time and time again. Sometimes dropping right at his feet. The man had "balls".

There was a rumor going around that he had died

but I haven't been able to find out for sure. The phone number I have for him is long disconnected, so I have no way of knowing. I went on the internet but all it was was a bunch of BS saying he deserved it and he was an actor and not a hunter. Just crap from PHs that were jealous of what he did. People that go to Africa to hunt with him wanted to have an exciting hunt and Mark gave it to them.
John Abraham is the closest to what Mark did that I know of. He gives the client the hunt of their lives. On two separate hunts he and I walked up to within 25 feet of 2 Cape Buffalo before John told me to take my shot from there. The buffalo in both cases were highly pissed and pawing the ground, shaking their heads and saying bad things about my Mother. I knew John was behind me with his 475 Jeffery #2.It was a puckering situation but I knew he was there so as long as I did my part we were OK.

On my lion hunt I had put 4 rounds of my 510 GNR into my lion and John and I walked up to where the lion lay. Again I had faith in John, my PH and friend. so just do my job. Michael Mendes took some videos of my lion and of John and I walking up to within a few feet of the big cat. And being 6 feet from a hopefully dead cat was what made that hunt so great.

My bucket list still has one more hunt in it before I croak and good Lord willing I will get to go on another lion hunt with John Abraham at my shoulder.
As far as Mark Sullivan dying I saw some crap where it said he was dead and he deserved it but no proof that he had died. So until I see it I will assume that Mark is doing what he did best, giving his clients the hunt of their lives.

Wow!! Impressive stories!
