Reeder Custom Guns - When the 6.5 Creedmoor first came out I

read the specs on it and read the info some gun writers were spouting like "shooting flat out to 800 yards" and other figments of their imagination.

But now there is another Creedmoor that will be written up by the same gun writers as the finest cartridge to ever be released.
Here are some of the claims that are in full page ads. Are you ready? Do you have your boots on, as the shit gets deep in this ad.
"At 600 yards the 22 Creedmoor is almost 600 fps faster than the 22-250"

Next.."At 1000 yards the 22 Creedmoor has almost 12 FEET less drop than the 220 Swift"

Next..."At 600 yards the 22 Creedmoor has over 24 inches less wind drift than the 22-250 in a 10 mph wind."

Next..."At 1000 yards the 22 Creedmoor has enough kinetic energy for hunting deer".

So here is the cartridge you guys have been looking for. Now you can shoot deer at 1000 yards and only hold over around 12 feet.

The problem I see here is the cartridge is probably a decent cartridge, just like the 6.5 Creedmoor is a decent cartridge, so why all the total BS hype? Let the cartridge sell on it's own merits. If it is a good cartridge then it will sell and be known as a good small game cartridge. If it is not a decent cartridge then all the hype and all the BS in the world won't help it to sell. Besides that in several states a 22 caliber cartridge is illegal for deer, with the 243 being the smallest one can hunt deer with. And in my opinion that should hold true in every state where they hunt deer. Just the opinion of a handgun hunter.

In Safari Club's magazine back in the 1980's they had a regular column that re-published old hunting stories. I remember one about a world record bighorn that was taken at over 400 yards with factory .30-30 ... before 1910 if I remember correctly. The shooter was praising the high velocity flat shooting cartridge and how well it worked.

in far western Pennsylvania for whitetail. I was much younger and when the sun rose I could see the floor was littered with 243 brass. I took note and thought "died in the wool" Pennsylvania deer hunters know more then me.....

It was our "Meat Gun" .. we told people that we didn't hunt with it. We went and harvested meat with it. We never lost a deer when using it. I handloaded the 95 gr. Nosler Partition bullet and drove it around 3000 fps from the Remington. It was easy to shoot and always did the job.

the 600s in 350 Remington Magnum (which I think was the first of the short Magnums). Anyway, the gun had the plastic vent rib and the plastic bottom material (actually sort of a soft rubber material). I liked the gun even though it pounded me silly every shot (I was younger then and thought I was enjoying the recoil). After a short while the vent rib began to warp and you could see under it. The bottom mag release and around the trigger group also began to warp. I was still in radio back then and working part time at the local gun shop in Clarksville Tennessee and didn't know diddly. One of the older guys there told me the gun was coming apart and I needed to get rid of it. Being dumber than a box of rocks I believed him. I sold the gun and have always sorta regretted it.
But the model 600 and the later 660 were great little guns.

Had a decent wood stock. We mounted a 4X Weaver on it and used it for about 20 years. After she died I gave it to a family member. Every once in awhile I wish I had it back.

Like you said, I sorta regret ever selling it, even though it knocked the snot out of me every shot. I had contact lens back then and if I didn't squeeze my eyes together a bit the recoil would flip them out. But when you are 25 years old I expected the recoil and liked it, like shooting my Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Magnum without hearing protection (we didn't have muffs back then).

They were quite the hiking rifle .. easy to tote around. Now days IF you can find one, you almost have a take a loan out. When they were available in the 80's they were considered a cheap rifle by many. And I guess they were at the time.

The XP or the Model 600.

was praised for its abilities as a long range mountain cartridge in the Himalayas... It was a huge step over the 30-30 yet today its laughed at in certain circles where Ultra Mags rule.. [image]
