32 H&R in my Ruger cratered the primer pretty good. Used the same loads in my lever gun with no issue. Is that chamber dimensions or something else? Fill me misfits. Thanks

The bore in the H&R could be a bit tight, causing back

pressure as the bullet leaves the case, which could cause the cratering. There are a couple more things that could cause the cratering but they are in high pressure rifles.

What are you sizing your bullets to?

The Ruger .32s use a .308 caliber barrel on them

Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R, Henry carbine also. I think the load was a little hot. 4227, CCI primer. Just curious why it cratered in one but not the other. Never had issues in either before. It was 100gr cast.

I had trouble with 4227 in a reduced load cratering in 44mag.
gave away the remainder of the lb of it as it would not do what I wanted. Dirtied up and fouled it so bad I had to help turn the cylinder as I pulled on the trigger in double action. Danged thing went off and drove burned and unburned powder granules into my palm. Smarted right good. Nope, no use for 4227 here.LOL:-|

Every Ruger .32 I ever had demanded .311-.312” to shoot!

Gary’s gun he built me is .308 and stacks .311’s if I need it to. But I’m not pushing hot loads, even though the cylinder is .327. I got some soft CCI primers a couple years ago, really had me scratching my head. .32 H&R don’t even hold much powder, what combo?

Lol, I’ve shot 165 cast spire points out of some .32 H&R before. But that’s another tale.

as far back as I remember we always used a .308

bore barrel for all our 32 caliber revolvers. I have never had anyone say their gun didn't shoot well.

I built a few revolvers for John Taffin using a .308

bore and if it didn't shoot well I think John would have let me know. Plus we have had probably a hundred 32s thru the years, maybe more that we used a .308 bore on and never a problem. An older gunsmith who was very well known at that time, probably late 70s, told me then to use 308 bore on all 32s so I have ever since and never a problem.
