About 7 years ago, I bought a Marlin 336 in 35 caliber off Gun Broker. I put it in the safe and never really looked at it in detail. This year, my wife wanted a gun for elk hunting that had more than one shot(her Contender 7mm GNR). I put a scout scope on it for her and she shoots it well. Anyway, I thought that it was a recent factory standard gun but it is ported and doesn't have a safety and the stock is a laminate. Is this an older gun or did someone do some custom work on it?

They made some stainless laminate

336 rifles. My uncle had a long barrel half magazine .30-30. They also made some "guide guns" in that configuration I believe. It was in the later years so they should have safety's. There is a nifty little "safety delete" kit that makes the safety button a flush little round disc.

Pictures would help access the rifle.

I believe the guide gun model was 336D,

but I'm too lazy to look right now. I've read that it was a Davidson special order and 1000 were made. I've only seen one and it's in one of my safes.
