thrir morning dump. I noticed one of them standing staring at the ground. I watched her for a while and she never moved. A little later I went back and she was still standing still looking at the ground, cocking her head from time to time like she was hearing something. A few minutes later after almost an hour standing still I saw her move her head down toward the ground, then she snatched at something. Whatever it was it also had her by the lip. She slammed the critter to the ground and got a good bite on it. After it quit moving she wasn't interested anymore so she walked away. I went out and took a look at it. It was a mole that some folks call a vole. It was 7 degrees so I wondered how it was digging in the yard with the ground frozen hard as a whore's heart.
If you have never seen one of these yard destroyers up close they are an amazing critter. They have teeth like a squirrel and long claws like a miniature grizzly. Somehow they manage to dig thru frozen ground and leave us with several ugly holes in the yard. Here is the little beast.



The amazing part is the mole can feel any movement on the ground near their hole and the Jack Russell stood perfectly still for well over an hour to grab this little critter, then once she had killed it she had no use for it.
