each of them started their own band from the remnants. I think Clapton was a member of 5 or 6 groups from the Yardbirds, Derek & the Dominos, Cream, and so on. His most popular song, Layla, wasn't even recorded when he was with his own group. It was with Derek & The Dominos. Page went back and forth with his buddy Stevie Winwood and a couple of others. People talk about Clapton as if he was the only member of Cream when Jack Bruce was the main vocalist. Ginger Baker was a decent drummer if he could stay straight long enough.
The 60s were a decade one needed to be lucky enough to live thru. There were about 10 rockers that made up about 20 groups. At recording sessions it wasn't unusual for 5 or 6 "friends" that were members of other groups to stop in and "help out".
One can look at the back liner notes on a live recording album during that time to see about 25 people that weren't even members of the band that was recording live.
The 60s and up thru the early 70s were an amazing time in rock & roll music. So many groups began and ended during that time. I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have been around during that time. I was in there from 1963 up to 1985 and loved every minute of it. Even after I got out of almost 25 years in radio in 1985 it wasn't unusual to see old friends at some of the rock concerts that were put on in the area. Quite a few old rockers were living in Sarasota and they couldn't pass up a chance to see old friends there.
It was a great time in music and I feel grateful to have been even a small part of it.
