The little cartridge trying to do the job of the bigger cartridge does not have much other than noise.

Back in 1969 I bought a brand new Ruger in .30 Carbine. Lots of noise. Had absolutely no power left at 100 yards. The old 158 gr. roundnose .38 Special would out-penetrate it at that distance. I could not get a heavy enough bullet to make it work at longer ranges and gave it up and sold it. Never been interested in little calibers for serious work.
