Winter CCW choices…

One fun aspect of winter is the easier time concealing one’s weapon of choice. It’s likely not a sound tactical training practice, but I like to swap out the warmer weather choices. It might be best to pick and stick, but I enjoy it. Taking advantage of an added jacket it covers about anything I wish. Bigger seems better, from a shootability point of view, it’s true. My little pocket .380, handy, is a devil to master past 25’. Despite having a great trigger and atypical excellent sights.

*I normally use a custom Wilson 15-shot SIG module that Roman just hates. It’s a 1/4” shorter, smaller, and grippier. But my light will not snap on without mods, and I’ve not sprung for the fancier compact light. Maybe I need to try the smaller factory SIG Compact Carry module.

The subjective “Kahr” brand I’ve grown to favor actually serve me well in seasonal transition. The PM45 is basically the same size as the PM40 Covert in the picture. It’s simply as thin, light, and “me” able to hit with, as I can find. The SIG 9mm 320-X Carry dwarfs the 6-shot .40. Sometimes I substitute a G19 or G30s (both identical in size) but all are best covered by a long untucked shirt or jacket. I’d NEVER open carry. Just me, I want to be the gray man, seemingly not a threat, hopefully playing upon a unforeseen tactical surprise. There are some 1911s and a couple wheel guns I’d like to unlimber before late spring also. Honestly though, a 3 lb. weapon pulls my drawers and is a bit of a bother. I use good leather and a fine gun specific carry belt. It’s just my skinny butt.

Hopefully soon I’ll break out a couple “biggies” to put into brief service. These may include the aforementioned .45 1911, 686, 66, SP101 .357’s, and maybe even 657 or ElDiablo .44! All I carry outside the waistband. If you have them you might as well use them when you can. The other 4-5 months I’ll probably revert back to lighter, smaller, unless the situation mandates a bit more comfort with added capacity (Memphis, Little Rock, Hot Springs, Nashville), you may understand.

WB, I don't have any room inside the waist band for anything

I wonder how “big boys” appendix carry? Lol. So many have that Dunlap issue. The belly dun lapped over the belt line. I can tighten my belt as tight as I can get it and still walk out of my pants. No hips, no ass!

I just put my Yaqui holster on my belt and just about any

"carry" gun will fit in it and this time of year a good sweat shirt or lightweight vest will cover it. No problem.

Like I said just about any gun will work

And the gun doesn't fall out.

Then there is a special holster for WB to cover all the bases.

That last holster looks like it was

ambidextrous. Would work with either hand.

The black on in my photo is a DeSantis pocket

Holster. But being textured, and covering the trigger, I use it tucked inside the waistband. It works well like that, doesn’t move around once positioned. Sort of an alternative to “Mexican” carry which can be a little dangerous of you got a shirttail or undies band wadded up in a Glock trigger. The Kahr is basically a flat revolver so it’s a little better. Sticky also makes holsters like the DeSantis. Both are about $30. My wife uses the Sticky holsters for her 365X and custom M60 .38. Ladies are well served with rigs they can just tuck in a waistband since they don’t usually wear belts like men.

You might have to do a little rubbing on it first

That inside the pants thing has always been curious to me.
I like the Reeder yaque.
