I watched this again last night. It was made in 1967 but is still an excellent movie. Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier did excellent jobs and I think Steiger won an Oscar. It also became a great TV series with of all people Carroll O'Connor stepping away from Archie Bunker in doing an excellent job as the police chief.

There is another movie with Sidney P.

That I’ve been wanting to watch. “A Warm December”. It’s a different version of the earlier “Roman Holiday” set in England rather than Italy. Sidney directed the movie himself and it centers around dirt bikes (my interest) rather than scootering about on a Vespa.

I remember Mr. Tibbs and the racial tension made me nervous. It was a powerful movie with outstanding acting. Myself, living in the south in the 1960’s, I experienced true racism first hand. I was shocked and very sad seeing how some humans could be so cruel to others. Their reasons were valid to themselves but sure escaped me. I vowed never to be that way, even as a little boy.
