so I fired up the lead pot and cast some bullets.

I never have shot the 190. Shot a pot full of the 424's though.

the mold is a really old Lyman one that my Dad rescued. It was battered and beat and some gun shop gave it to him when he bought some reloading stuff. He loved restoring old molds and worked this one over until it was useful again. So it stays in the family. And that old bullet is pretty accurate.

I had a big Hereford cow that had not given me a calf for 3 years so I decided to put her down and make steaks. When the butcher came over I asked him if he would mind if I put her down and he said he didn't. I put some range cubes on the ground and I let her eat some, then when she put her head down again I shot her in the sweet spot. I used my 1st Generation Colt SAA .45 loaded with the 190 bullet from that mold and a case full of 3Fg Black Powder. Of course the bullet went right through and pretty deeply into the ground. She never knew what hit her.

So I have a little attachment to the old mold.

in penetration. If it basically worked for over 100 yrs. it's hard to find much fault. The fizz it gives you personally justifies it plenty enough. Rock on.

appreciate that one.

I don't have a lot of sentimental value to many things, but one is a built in 1905 takedown Win. 94 with a 26" barrel I got from my G'Father and it will go to my son then to his. That rifle is not to leave the family.
