Shooting all day plus blowing up 2 scopes
Trying to get ready for Africa in a few weeks. This gun theft has really thrown a wrench in my monkey. With the TC parts almost non-existent I have gone back to square one. On my first 4 African safaris I used my new 7 GNR and 30 GNR and 338 GNR, so to keep from waiting until the last minute as I usually do I pulled my original 7 GNR, 30 GNR and 338 GNR barrels out of the safe, dusted them off and started shooting them today, I had my 378 GNR barrel too. Colleen's was one of the guns stolen.
I blew up a Bausch & Lomb 4X scope in the first 30 minutes on my 378 GNR. The ammo was loaded for an encore and it did a number on a Contender barrel. I had to take the frame totally apart to get it open and the guts were toast. So the 378 GNR may be off my list for the hunt, unless I can scrounge up some TC internals.
I have 4 or 5 extra scopes that I may shift around from barrel to barrel until I find a couple that work together well.
I had forgotten how hectic getting ready for Africa was, unless all the parts meshed together. This weekend I will do a lot of loading to see how much power I can get out of the 7 GNR, 30 GNR and 338 GNR. I am probably whistling up a ducks ass doing this as they did fine on the earlier hunts. For some silly reason I seem think the Africa game has gotten stronger and harder to kill since 1995. Need to get my head out of my butt and just concentrate on bullet placement.
