The bear talk around here is a big deal. Most folks have never seen a bear in the wild. Most still won't because he sees YOU first!
I have some old history books about this area from the mid 1800's and it is reported that we actually had bonified "Grizzly" bears, besides ample Black Bears, as well as Mountain Lion. The wild hillbillies killed them all out eating them! I hear Mountain Lion is the very best eating, no pun. Now days Blacks are coming back in a big way. The AVERAGE reported was over 300 lbs according to the very good Game & Fish records. Highly regulated tagging and reporting on bears.
