thanks to Erik Stenberg. I just got a model 160 357 Auto Mag. If any of you have a spare 44 Auto Mag barrel or a 41 Auto Mag barrel I would be interested.

one I had. I wanted a .44 as well. The .41 would be a hail mary caliber!
There was some guy really wearing the .357 out as was Jurras. I remember he too a looooooooooong shot with it in Africa I think. A 140 at 1900 fps? I'd have to hunt the story up.
As a boy they were the tip-top of handgun performance.

I was very blessed to have one and play with it for a while. Like Rolex watches, outstanding quality. But other things can work too. I could not justify hoarding either and let them go to other enthusiasts. It’s easier when you figure they are going to a good home!

for an African Safari including about 20 animals. I knew I could find more auto Mags so they went bye bye. The only one I regretted was my 41 Auto Mag as there were only 60 or so of them made. But the African Safari was memories to last forever so the decision wasn't a hard to make. Here are a couple.

said he took some really long shots with it. Well over 200 yards open sights. But the Auto Mags shot so flat and accurate it was easy to make the semi long shots.

I think you have a video of one of my shots with the 44 Auto Mag on a sheep. The shot was at 175 yards open sights if I remember right, maybe a bit less. And I was lucky enough to hit the sheep twice at that range. That was my longest open sight shot that I will never duplicate.
My favorite was the 41 Auto Mag. I hunted with it all over this crazy world. The caliber was simply the 44 Auto Mag case necked down to 41, and later on I copied it with rimmed 44 Magnum cases necked to 41 for my 41 GNR. And have hunted all over with it since then. Like a fool I let the 41 Auto Mag slip thru my hands when a fellow at a custom show offered me about 10 times what I had in it. I thought I could replace it. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened and 10 years later I am still looking for a 41 Auto Mag barrel. Those were the good old days.
