You can guess pretty close as well.

"snapping turtles often reach about 7 inches in carapace length by the time they are 10 years old; by the time they are a quarter-century in age, they reach about 11 inches in carapace length. The largest specimens -- with carapace lengths reaching or exceeding 18 inches -- are likely 70 to 100 years of age"

That boy is likely pushing the century mark. He's older than me!

About a snapping turtle that was found dead. They found both stone arrow head in it and a minie ball too!

lake to watch for turtles and if we caught any to chop it's head off and bring it home. She loved to cut the turtle out of the shell and fry the meat. She loved soft shell turtles and snappers too.

My grandmother was from New Orleans and had a cook book that even told you how to dispatch the critter.

My dear old Grannie always said some parts of turtle taste like chicken, and some taste like beef, whilst some taste like Aardvark.

I asked a ol feller on time I meet in the river about all the meat tasting different and he said naw it tastes like turtle.

In Tennessee there were a lot of noodlers. These were guys that waded the creeks bare footed and would feel under rock shelves under water feeling for the turtles. If they felt one with their feet they would dunk under and grab the turtle by the tail. A lot of those guys were missing toes and fingers.
