we chambered in the Ruger #1. That list is a fairly long one but here are the pics of the most popular African cartridges that we do chamber.
[image]They are, left to right....470 Nitro, 500 Nitro, 500 Jeffery, 505 Gibbs,585 Nyati, 700 Nitro and the 4 Bore. The 700 Nitro and 4 Bore although shown here are not workable in the Ruger #1, Just shown for chits and grins.

Should you want a rifle in a cartridge larger than the 500

Jeffery, make sure and have good dental insurance.

You can also detach a retina. Some older folks are iffy

to begin with. Try and be young and macho by shooting a too big rifle and end up blind in one eye, or get a blood clot. Sometimes you need to just pass. lol

I have a .500 Nitro in an Encore. Shot the No. 1 Reeder customs in .470, .500, 505, and .585. I don't think I shot the .610, but it was not supposed to be bad at all. Sean had it at the HHC one year, shot a hog. The .505 was salty!

Be it known the Reeder guns were set up correctly for managing recoil. Some fly-by-night set-up might really hurt you. The Ruger 77 African looked fantastic but the stock design really was uncomfortable to me. I felt all the recoil of it. Conversely, a 8-1/2 lb. .416 set up right feels like shooting a 7mm Mag. Super handy.
